Sony Added Boost Mode to the PS4 Pro to Improve Performance in Old Games

Sony is currently pushing a new firmware update to its PlayStation 4 console. It’s a beta preview of the update, version 4.50. And it added a new feature to the PS4 Pro console which the early owners of the console would find pretty useful. Many old PS4 titles run better on the new hardware which requires no further optimization by developers. Once you’ve install the update, there would be a “Boost Mode” option added to the settings menu. And only the more powerful Pro models will have this new option, the regular PS4 won’t.

A company spokesperson told The Verge that when the Boost Mode is activated, it “lets PS4 Pro run at a higher GPU and CPU clock speed in order to improve gameplay on some PS4 games that were released before the launch of PS4 Pro,” He also claimed “Games that have a variable frame rate may benefit from a higher frame rate, and load times may be shorter in some games too.”

Sony is in no way saying that it would work well for all titles, but Boost Mode still shows Sony’s sincere attempt to improve the user experience of the already powerful console. Other than 4K and HDR, now Sony also throws in this feature which helps you improve the experience when playing your old games. Sony also advices that Boost Mode might cause unexpected behavior in some cases with the PS4 Pro running at full speed. Turning off the option should resolve the problem.

In addition to the Boost Mode, Sony will also add the support for external hard drives to all PS4 models and some redesigned menus. And the new update also lets users to watch 3D Blu-rays in PSVR.

Sony’s Big Event on September 7: What Do We Expect?

On September 7, 2016, besides Apple’s New iPhone release event, there is another event organized by Sony. Sony is holding a press conference that reveals detailed information about the upcoming PlayStaion 4 Slim (PS4 Slim) and PS4 Neo.

How to watch:

There is a dedicated share button on the controller, which allows you to send snippets of recorded video straight to a friend or even invite them to watch your game, or ever perhaps participate in it in some minor way. On top of that, Sony has a partnership with Ustream, one of the most popular streaming sites online.

Although Microsoft spent quite less time to talk about sharing media, it is still a big part of the new Xbox Live. There is a feature called Game DVR, allowing you post recorded gameplay to Live and on unspecified social network services. Also, do remember that your entire body is the controller thanks to the new Kinect technology that you even track swivel in your wrists. That’s a great progress.

PS4’s controller is a variant of its tried-and-trusted DaulShock design. However, its built-in light on the top edge of its casing can be seen by the PlayStation Eye, meaning it can be used as a pointer. There is also a front touch pad which can act as a rudimentary display thanks to the colored LEDs.

Winner: Actually the focus is on the pad of each, but no one now has used either pad yet, so no winner.

4. Price and release date

This part is the hardest to judge, possibly, since Microsoft and Sony are playing this part very close to the vest. Both giants promise to formally release the consoles at the end of 2013. Similarly both are likely coming in the days before Black Friday, maybe even on the same day.

Although neither Microsoft nor Sony has announced how much their next game consoles will cost, analysts have agreed that the consoles are likely to sell for around $400~$500.
