The job is far from easy, as none of the players take seriously a female coach, and she has to prove to them she can do the job. However, she may have to do this at the expense of her children, who start to feel that she spends more time with the team than taking care of their needs. Goldie Hawn has to find a way to balance work and her family without a male or father to help her. Obviously it’s hard to be a mom, especially for a single mom.

3. Stepmom (1988)

Stepmom is a truly touching Mother’s Day movie for all. In this movie, we learn about a great mother and a good stepmother. All Mothers that we celebrate aren’t always the biological parents of the children. Susan Sarandon, the biological mother, is going through a divorce. This is a hard enough challenge to face. Add on top of that a new younger girlfriend for dad, and the plot thickens. Things hit the roof when Mom realizes she is terminally ill, and will now have to trust her children to her ex-husband’s new wife, the Stepmom (played by Julia Roberts). She has no choice but to give Julia Roberts all the information she needs to take over as their Mother once she dies.

4. Mrs. Miniver (1942)

Greer Garson is Mrs. Miniver, the matriarch of a middle-class English family experiencing life in the first months of World War II, dodging bombs and protecting their family the best they can. Mrs. Miniver protects her kids like a momma lion, and she’s always calm, cool and collected, even when dealing with a wounded German soldier.

5. The Sound of Music (1965)

Gentle Maria (Julie Andrews) leaves – ok, gets kicked out of – her post at an Austrian convent to become the governess to seven mischievous kids of a strict Naval officer widower (Christopher Plummer). A mom doesn’t have to be biologically related in order to be a great caregiver. Just watch the touching scene where Maria comforts the kids with her “favorite things” and you’ll agree that this movie is just for Mother’s Day.

6. Mask (1985)

Starring Cher, this is a motivating Mother’s Day movie about a mother who has a son with a disease that causes an enlarged skull and facial disfigurement. She has to help her son get past the stigma he endures with his classmates and in life in general. Cher has her own problems, such as addiction, and her son tries to help her deal with them. This movie will tell you how important of mutual-help in family members.

7. Forrest Gump (1994)

To be honest, this movie is my favorite movie. It’s really considered a drama, but there were so many funny moments in this film, I had to list it here. And who in the world could forget Sally Fields’ portrayal of Forrest’s mother and her fabulous Southern wisdom in this Academy Award winning film. So pull out the tissues, and hunker down for a nice cozy evening with mom.

8. Overboard (1987)

This is Goldie Hawn at her best in this screwball comedy. A rich witch of a woman falls overboard her yacht and winds up assuming the role of mother for a poor, bratty bunch of kids. It’s a match made in hog heaven!

9. My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)

Even if a mom feels her job is to cook “foods filled with warmth and wisdom, and never forgetting that side dish of steaming hot guilt,” you know she does it out of love. In this film, Toula’s mom Maria does everything in her power to help her daughter achieve her dreams, by giving Dad a good talking to!

10. Moonstruck (1987)

When 30-something unlucky widow Loretta Castorini (Cher) tells her mother Rose (Olympia Dukakis) that she’s engaged to be married again, Rose asks if Loretta if she loves her fiancé. When Loretta says no, Rose replies: “Good. When you love them, they drive you crazy, ’cause they know they can.” As you can imagine, Rose is one unforgettable mom in this stereotypical New York Italian family.
